Early Spring at Powder Valley

The trail was damp but firm after overnight rain. Wildflowers are just beginning to appear near the creek crossing. Layered clothing worked well — started cool, warmed up by mile two.

Gear note: Waterproof trail shoes recommended. Trekking poles optional on the steeper sections.

Urban Loop: Tower Grove to Shaw

A flat, paved route connecting two neighborhood parks. Good option for newcomers. Several cafés along the return path for post-walk refreshments.

Weather tip: Afternoon sun can be strong on open sections. Bring a hat and water bottle.

Castlewood Bluffs in Winter

Leafless trees opened up river views we do not see in summer. The descent to the bluff overlook was icy in spots — microspikes helped on the steeper grades.

Gear note: Insulated water bottle kept drinks from freezing. Hand warmers appreciated during breaks.

How to Submit Field Notes

Members can submit short write-ups after any club walk or solo outing. Entries should focus on trail conditions, gear observations, and practical tips.

Keep It Practical

Focus on trail surface, weather impact, and what you wore or carried. Avoid promotional language or outcome claims.

Include Location

Name the route or general area. GPS coordinates are optional but helpful for lesser-known paths.
